Professor Dr. Alaa Al-Din Abdulwahab Hassoun Al-Sabti
Professor of Financial Accounting and Auditing, born in Basra in 1953. He obtained his Ph.D. in Accounting from the University of Baghdad in 1997, following advanced studies in accounting and insurance. With over four decades of academic and professional experience, he has taught and held positions in several universities in Iraq and abroad, including Cihan University–Erbil, Al-Isra University in Jordan, Al-Zahra College for Women and Sur University College in the Sultanate of Oman. In addition, he served as a financial expert at the Ministry of Finance in Oman and as Director of Internal Audit at the Agricultural and Fisheries Development Fund.
Professor Al-Sabti has held several key academic and administrative posts, including Head of the Accounting Department and Associate Dean for Scientific Affairs at the College of Administration and Economics. He has taught a wide range of courses such as Financial Accounting, Advanced Accounting, Corporate Accounting, International Auditing Standards, International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS), and Managerial Accounting.
He has published numerous peer-reviewed research papers in Arab and international journals, covering topics such as investment, auditing, financial reporting, Islamic finance, and corporate disclosure. He has also participated in many conferences and seminars, presenting research on governance, accounting ethics, and the latest developments in international accounting standards.
Professor Al-Sabti is recognized for his significant contributions to the advancement of accounting education, curriculum development, and the supervision of many students and researchers. He is regarded as one of the distinguished academic figures in the field of accounting and auditing in Iraq and the Arab region.
Duties of the Assistant Dean for Academic Affairs:
The Assistant Dean for Academic Affairs exercises the following authorities to facilitate student affairs within the college:
1. Organizing final examination schedules in coordination with the academic departments.
2. Organizing weekly class schedules in coordination with academic departments, taking into account classroom availability to ensure smooth conduct of postgraduate studies.
3. Supervising the weekly lecture log to ensure all scheduled hours for each subject are covered in accordance with applicable regulations.
4. Monitoring postgraduate students' attendance and discipline according to current regulations and instructions.
5. Reviewing and consolidating postgraduate admission applications received from academic departments before submitting them to the university administration.
6. Verifying transfer requests for postgraduate studies from other universities to the college and referring them to the relevant departments for consideration and communication with the concerned entities.
7. Monitoring postgraduate students' timelines and ensuring their full dedication to studies as per regulations and instructions.
8. Participating in postgraduate committee meetings in the college when invited to discuss postgraduate affairs as per departmental specialization to ensure efficient performance.
9. Preparing a notice of a postgraduate student’s defense one week before the scheduled date, organizing defense committee minutes, and submitting them to the college council.
10. Supervising the preparation of annual postgraduate statistics for the college.
11. Managing the distribution and collection of examination booklets in compliance with established procedures.
12. Announcing examination results after approval by the postgraduate committees in the academic departments, according to specialization.
13. Providing academic departments with grades in a standardized format for approval by the postgraduate committees.
14. Coordinating with academic departments for the delivery of exam questions for the first and second sessions as practiced in undergraduate studies.
15. Communicating with official bodies regarding the postgraduate student’s record, from registration to graduation.
